Passion, purpose and action are words that come to my mind every September when I hear about the annual Terry Fox Run for cancer research. Imagine the number of people that Terry has helped or inspired since his attempt to run across Canada almost 30 years ago. When we act on a dream that we are passionate about, we create possibilities and encourage others.
If there is something that matters to you, I say: take action and get involved! Participating in or volunteering for community organizations, schools, clubs and events is a perfect way to explore your talents and serve others at the same time.
The Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 19 is a wonderful opportunity to support a great cause and enjoy Devon’s beautiful trail system. Join in this family friendly event, and walk, run, bike or rollerblade the wheelchair accessible trails along River Drive. Participants choose their own pace and distance. In October, check out the Turkey Trot, a 10 kilometre race and fundraiser for the Devon General Hospital Foundation. Have fun by volunteering at a water station along the route.
These are only two of many opportunities to get involved, right here in our community. Whether pursuing your own dreams or supporting others, who knows where your contributions may lead!
