On Mar. 8, 2017, Devon Protective Services received information regarding a property in Devon hoarding numerous cats. After an investigation of the property, 21 cats were discovered by Devon’s Community Peace Officer and were surrendered to the Edmonton Humane Society.

“Our Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw strictly states that no person shall keep or harbour more than four domestic animals in a residential area” said Benoit Guay, Senior Community Peace Officer for the Town of Devon. “If our residents see situations like this around town, please let us know so we can do our part to ensure the health of our residents, these animals and the community.”

The Town of Devon would like to thanks the Edmonton Humane Society for providing expedient support with dealing with this difficult situation and for all of their service to animals in need in the Edmonton area.

More information about animal hoarding is available on the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies website at www.cfhs.ca.
