Services for Older Adults

Older Adult and Seniors Service (OASS)

For any information regarding senior services: Annemarie at 780-987-8308 or CSOC@devon.ca

OASS provides preventative social programs to assist older adults (anyone aged 55 or over), seniors and persons with disabilities to maintain their independence and enhance their quality of life. The OASS program is there to connect you to available resources, assist with applying for benefits and subsidies, coordinate temporary short term respite (via our service providers), and can provide referrals to other agencies. OASS works with community partners to provide necessary support to allow people to live as independently as possible.

OASS In-Home Support Program

OASS offers two housekeeping programs, Lighter Help At Home and Heavier Help at Home, both of which are available to eligible clients aged 65+ and / or clients with disabilities / restrictive medical needs (more information HERE). These services are available with or without subsidy which is determined following an income based assessment. Information on current subsidies available can be found below.

Did you know..?

Our Community Service Outreach worker can also provide information and referrals on a wide variety of topics. We also offer a free tax return service to eligible persons. In addition, we run an indoor walking program in partnership with Leduc #1 between October and April, and a monthly caregiver support group in partnership with Caregivers Alberta. We also host older adult and senior specific workshops and programs throughout the year. Our community bus runs a scheduled daily service (Monday to Friday) – picks you up at your door and drops you right at your destination. It is wheelchair and scooter accessible and fares start from as little as $5 return (with as many drop off locations as you need).

Subsidy Eligibility

Applicants to these programs will be assessed for subsidy eligibility.

Three factors will be determine eligibility:

  • Age
  • Annual income (note that it is the client's responsibility to notify the coordinator when their annual income changes)
  • Ability to complete household tasks (a doctor’s note may be required)

Lighter Help At Home ONLY: A subsidy is also available from the Government of Alberta (Special Needs Assistance for Seniors). If a senior meets the eligibility criteria for Special Needs Assistance for Seniors (SNA) they will be asked to obtain a doctor's note. The Coordinator can assist the client in applying for SNA subsidy.

These amounts will change annually to match thresholds set by the Government of Alberta's Special Needs Assistance subsidy program, which is reviewed and adjusted each July.
