What is FCSS and how can we help you?

FCSS or Family & Community Support Services is a free  service to residents of Devon. Programs are designed to be preventative to support individuals and families that may need guidance or help with some of the things life throws at them. By working in partnership with community groups and organizations, schools, and regional colleagues and agencies we are able to assist with a variety of needs. Please note, that these services are offered in confidence.

Crisis Prevention and Essential Support Services. FCSS does not offer crisis intervention. If you or someone you know are in danger, or are at imminent risk call 9-1-1.

The Edmonton region can access trained specialists, available 24/7, who provide an essential service to those in need. Whatever your concern is - please call.

For confidential assistance, please contact the 24 hour rural crisis support line. This is available through Canadian Mental Health and is open to everyone. It is a supportive listening, crisis intervention and referral service.

What can FCSS offer?

Among many other things, FCSS can provide help with:

Subsidized counselling (where eligible) - starting at $20 per hour for a limited number of sessions (determined by need and application type). Families who earn less than $75,000 and individuals earning $50,000 or less. The Town of Devon has partnered with Karunia or Family Counselling Centres  for a variety of therapy options. Counselling may be sought for a variety of concerns, such as assistance with relationship issues, communication issues, marriage preparation, parenting support, anger management and mental health.

In-home outreach support for families - The outreach support program offers short-term support for individuals and families, and aims to build on their strengths in life to help them cope and be resilient. This service is free. The outreach support worker will assist individuals and families to develop or enhance organizational skills, conflict resolution and problem solving skills; communication skills, healthy relationship-building skills, friendship skills and positive self-esteem. The worker can also address a variety of topics, including peer pressure, parent-teen conflict, prevention of drug and alcohol misuse, self-esteem/awareness, parenting, anger management, healthy dating, empowerment and bullying.

Information and Referral to reach other services (such as housing, food, mental health) - visit the office, call or email to connect with the FCSS coordinator who will support you in finding the assistance you need. Devon Community Bus - A door-to-door* service that takes you to appointments, shopping and entertainment in town and surrounding communities.  Open to everyone, including those in wheelchairs or mobility scooters, parents with strollers or shopping carts (subject to space and car seat criteria).

Seniors Services - Seniors Services provides preventative social programs to assist seniors and persons with disabilities to maintain their independence and enhance their quality of life. Seniors Services works with community partners to provide necessary support to allow people to live as independently as possible.

Volunteer Tax Assistance Program - The volunteer income tax program helps low-income individuals and seniors complete basic income tax returns for free, with the help of trained volunteers. This program does not complete complex returns for individuals who are deceased, bankrupt or who have any type of business, farm or rental income.

Accessibility funding for courses (where eligible) - The Town of Devon believes in creating an inclusive community where all residents can lead a healthy and active lifestyle regardless of economic circumstance. Through the fund, financial barriers to participation in programs and activities are eased.

Short courses on parenting, healthy eating, babysitting, teen awareness issues and many more - we support a variety of preventative programming, in schools, the indoor playgroup, for seniors, families. 

Leduc Food Bank is available for Devon residents - call 780-986-5333 or visit their website HERE. You will need to take a piece of ID and proof of residence. If you have issues with transportation, there are options available.
