The Town of Devon has been challenged with low growth over the past six years. This has negatively impacted the community in several ways including: the loss of residents, businesses, employment opportunities and, in the long term, it will hinder Devon’s ability to improve infrastructure and services to the community, which will inevitably create a tax burden on its residents.
Devon’s Council has been hard at work exploring options to stimulate Devon’s growth and economic development. One avenue being explored in order to achieve this is by developing the ~32 acre parcel of land that the Town jointly purchased with Alberta Transportation west of Highway 60 in mid- 2017. In an effort to spark the quick absorption & development of this land and open the door to future commercial development in the area, Council is currently considering the construction of a new multi-purpose recreation facility that will act as a catalyst for development.
West of HWY 60 Development Survey
We have launched a survey for residents and businesses to fill out to share their feedback on the proposed development of the land west of HWY 60 and to gauge their understanding of the project. The survey will run from Nov. 13 - Nov. 30 and can be accessed through a unique PIN code that has been mailed out in October's utility bills that go to residents and businesses in mid-November.
The survey is available at devon.ca/westof60survey.
Open House Discussion - Q & A Report
On Sept. 19, 2018 the Town held an community Open House which provided Devon residents an opportunity to submit questions about the proposed development west of Highway 60. The Open House yielded over 190 questions from residents and businesses, through sticky notes placed on a number of information boards. This report is a collection of all questions submitted as a result of the Sept.19, 2018 Open House, as well as any additional emails sent to Town staff.
