Council passes third reading of MDP and Battery Creek ASP

After a two-year process, Devon Council voted unanimously to pass second and third reading of its updated Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Battery Creek Area Structure Plan (ASP) at their Aug. 14 Council Meeting. This came shortly after both the MDP and Battery Creek ASP met approval from the Capital Region Board (CRB).

Through the CRB’s approval, Devon’s updated MDP was commended for its consistency with the Capital Region Growth Plan’s principles of strengthening the community and protecting the environment.

“We are proud of all of the hard work that went into our Connecting Devon project by Town Administration, our consultants and most of all, our residents who took the time to share their thoughts and concerns with us about Devon’s future,” said Mayor Lindop. “It was a long process getting here. We received a lot of feedback and have done our best to incorporate it into the final plans.”

Connecting Devon started in fall of 2015 when the Town identified the need to update its Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP), MDP and create an area structure plan for the newly annexed Battery Creek land from Leduc County, on the southeast corner of Devon bordering Highway 19.

This large undertaking took place through four phases:

  • Phase 1: Setting the stage – October to December 2015
  • Phase 2: Creating our community vision with input from Council, Administration and the public January to March 2016
  • Phase 3: Drafting the Plans & Public Engagement – January 2016 to March 2017
  • Phase 4: Finalizing the Plans – April 2017 to July 2017

“Protecting the environment has been one of the top considerations throughout this project and I am happy to see that the CRB has noticed the care we’ve taken through the plans development to ensure we have done just that,” said Tony Kulbisky, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Devon.

Now that the MDP and Battery Creek ASP have passed third reading by Devon Council, they will both play a large part in the development of Battery Creek and other future developments around Devon.
