Fire Department History The following history has been referenced from the book “For Devon’s Sake, A History of the Town of Devon”. Did you know a volunteer fire department was first organized under volunteer Fire Chief Del Stuckey in the latter part of 1948? Before long, fifteen volunteer firefighters were serving to protect the developing town. Along with the basic equipment, Devon Estates had provided the fire brigade with a relatively new, and for its time, fully equipped, fire truck – a 1944 model built by International. At the end of 1950, Labby Laberge was in charge of Imperial Oil at the time. Ernie Williams was the Fire Chief and Mel Badry was his deputy. Also included in the fire brigade were Frank Cloverdale, Paul Diemert, Del Stuckey, Norm Louden, Norm Long, Roy Inkster, Elmer Warren, Bill Wigham, Jerry Simpson and Irwin Dickau. We thank these founding Fire Department members and all those who have volunteered for our community along the way! Share Print
