Treaty Six Day Sponsorship

In anticipation of the Town of Devon Second Annual Treaty Six Day gathering on August 23, 2022, we are reaching out to local businesses and organizations asking for involvement and support with this historical and community-based event!

If you are interested in participating in this years annual Treaty Six gathering, please fill out the vendor and sponsorship package which includes more information.

Orange Shirt Design Contest

The Town of Devon is asking residents to submit their own original design to be chosen as this years Orange Shirt Design for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Past Initiatives

Below are some of our past initiatives and events.

2019 Elders Engagement Session

  • Devon hosted an engagement session with Elders and Nation members to review the Indigenous Engagement Framework (Cultural Awareness and Relationship Building with Indigenous Peoples Document)

2019 - Maskekosak Chief and Council/Devon Mayor and Council Dinner

  • Devon hosted ECN Chief and Council for a dinner meet-n-greet

2019 - Indigenous Engagement Open House

  • Devon hosted an open house to gain feedback from the local community on regard to reconciliation and engagement with Indigenous communities

2020 - SSISA Bi-Giwen Exhibit

  • The SSISA Bi-Giwen exhibit was open for Devon residents to view and learn more about the Sixties Scoop

2020 - SSISA What Was Lose Experiential Exercise

  • The Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta gave an experiential sixties scoop exercise to the Devon community

2020 - Treaty Talks Film Viewing & Talking Circle

  • Dr. Patricia Makokis and Dr. Dianna Steinhauer gave a presentation to the Devon community after a viewing of the Treaty Talks film

2020 - Michif Cultural Connection Workshops

  • Michif Cultural Connection gave a series of workshops and presentations on Metis Culture to the Devon community

2020 - Philip Compiou's Tipi at Family Day Event

  • Elder Philip Campiou gave a presentation to Devon families in his tipi setup at the Lions Campground

2020 - Nehiyawewin (Cree) Language Classes

  • Instructor Les Skinner provided Cree Language instruction to the Devon community

2020 - Sharing Circles with Melissa Calliou

  • Melissa Calliou shared stories and knowledge to Devon residents in these sharing circle

2020 - TLU/TEK Site Visits

  • Devon worked with the Four Nations of Maskwacis and Enoch Cree Nation to conduct site visits at the new ball diamonds location

2020 - Treaty Six & Metis Nation Flag Raising

  • Devon, in partnership with Treaty Six and MNA Region 4 leadership, permanently raised the Treaty Six and Metis Nation flags

2020 - ToD Staff tour of Meskekosak (Enoch Cree Nation)

  • Devon staff were treated to a tour of Enoch Cree Nation

2020 - Pow-Wow & Jigging Event

  • Devon hosted its first Pow-Wow and Jigging event, attracting people from all across Treaty Six Territory

2020 - Orange Shirt Day

  • ​Staff gathered together to learn more about the history and legacy of the Indian Residential School System in Canada

2021 - MMIWG2S+ Awareness Gathering

  • The Devon community gathered to create awareness about the MMIWG2S+ epidemic

2021 - Treaty Six Day Proclamation

  • Former Mayor Ray Ralph officially proclaimed August 23 as the annual Devon Treaty Six Day

2021 - National Day for Truth & Reconciliation Walk and Community Event

  • Over 300 people joined on our Orange Shirt Day walk and attended the awareness event in the afternoon
