Update on Cybersecurity Incident Involving Personal Information - Feb. 13, 2026

The Town of Devon is currently issuing personalized notices to individuals whose personal information may have been impacted by the cybersecurity incident that occured on July 21, 2025, based on the results of our investigation. If your information was impacted, the notice will identify what personal information may have been impacted by the incident. These notices will be sent to the impacted individuals by Feb 20, 2026 by either email or regular postage mail, depending on the contact information the Town has on these individuals.

This update follows a lengthy and detailed review process. Since the incident, the Town has been working methodically with third-party cyber security experts to understand what happened, assess the impacts, and ensure we are meeting all privacy and security obligations. Immediately upon discovering the incident, the Town acted quickly with these experts to secure its systems, contain the issue, and limit any operational impacts. External legal counsel was engaged to guide our response and assist us in the review of impacted documents, and coordinate the notification to individuals whose personal information may have been impacted as a result of the incident.

At this time, there is no evidence that any personal information has been misused.

What we are doing

 The Town takes the privacy and protection of personal information very seriously. In response to this incident, we have:

  • Secured our systems and restored affected servers from backups
  • Conducted a comprehensive investigation with independent cybersecurity experts
  • Notified the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta
  • Added additional administrative, technical, and physical security safeguards to our IT environment
  • Continued monitoring for any suspicious or unauthorized activity

We remain committed to strengthening our information-security practices and being transparent with our community as we move forward.

Previous Update - July 29, 2025

The Town of Devon is actively responding to a cybersecurity incident that occurred on July 21, 2025, affecting the Town’s servers and computer systems.

Immediately upon detecting the incident, the Town took swift action to secure its systems, limit potential impacts, and initiate a comprehensive investigation. Independent cybersecurity experts were engaged to assist with the response and to guide recovery efforts in accordance with industry best practices.

Preliminary findings indicate that some personal information may have been accessed. At this time, it is too early to determine the full extent or nature of the data involved. Importantly, there is currently no evidence that any personal information has been misused.

“The privacy and protection of our residents’ information is a top priority,” said Corey Levasseur, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Devon. “We are working closely with cybersecurity professionals to understand what occurred, assess any potential risks, and ensure our systems are reinforced to prevent future threats.”

As part of the response, the Town is carefully reviewing its digital infrastructure and security protocols and exploring additional protective measures to help prevent future cybersecurity incident.

The Town of Devon remains committed to transparency and accountability throughout this process. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available via the Town’s official website at www.devon.ca.
