Youth Xtra - Life Skills Worth Knowing

Devon FCSS

Free, drop‑in workshops for youth ages 13–17, held every Tuesdays from 6–7 p.m. upstairs at the 1949 Building (Old Robina Baker), 5 Jasper Court S. Held in partnership with the Local Youth Experience Local Leaders program, each session builds practical skills you’ll use for life: money & finances, cooking & nutrition, communication, social skills, employability, health & hygiene, mental wellbeing, home & vehicle maintenance, healthy relationships, and more.

Program at a glance

  • When: Tuesdays, 6:00–7:00 p.m. (starting Sept. 24)
  • Where: Upstairs, 1949 Building (Old Robina Baker), 5 Jasper Court S.
  • Who: Youth ages 13–17
  • Cost: FreeFree
Drop‑in format: No registration required. Please arrive on time — each session follows a planned structure and builds from the beginning.

What you’ll learn

Topics include money & financial basics, cooking & nutrition, communication & social skills, employability, health & hygiene, mental health & wellbeing, home & vehicle maintenance, and healthy relationships.

Facilitated by FCSS staff and community partners. Interactive, hands‑on, and practical.

What to bring

  • Bring a water bottle and a readiness to participate.
  • If a session has special needs (e.g., clothing for sewing), we’ll note it below.

Land Acknowledgement

The Town of Devon acknowledges the land we are on, Treaty Six territory and the homeland of the Métis, which encompasses the traditional lands of the Cree (nehiyawak), Blackfoot (niitsitapi), Nakota (isga), Anishinaabe (anishinaabeg), and Métis (michif) Peoples, who are the legal caretakers and protectors of the lands and waters, and who have been here since time immemorial.

We acknowledge that Devon is within the traditional lands and territories of kiskayôs (Bobtail) and maskêkosihk (Enoch Cree) First Nations. We shall continue to uphold our Treaty responsibilities to all Peoples of Treaty Six and continue to work with all Indigenous Peoples towards a better future together.
