WECAN Food Basket Society

The Town of Devon is proud to partner with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) Hockey Program and the WECAN Food Basket Society to help residents access fresh, nutritious food at affordable prices.

This non-profit program is open to all eligible residents and is designed for anyone who would benefit from improved access to healthy, affordable food.

How the Program Works

1. Join WECAN

To participate, you must first become a WECAN member.

• Annual membership: $5 per household

2. Order Your Food Each Month

Orders are placed during the first week of each month (before the first Friday).

Available options:

• Produce basket – $15
• Meat order – $20

You can order as many baskets as your household needs.

Note: Food items vary monthly and are pre-selected—you cannot customize your order.

3. Payment

Payment is made directly through WECAN:

• Accepted methods: Debit Visa or Credit Card

Please Note:

• Cash is only accepted in person at the Edmonton depot
• Devon FCSS and local volunteers do not handle payments

Once payment is complete, your order will be delivered to Devon.

4. Pick Up Your Order in Devon

Pick-up takes place:

📍 GFL Twin Arena - Dale Fisher Rink Entrance
🗓 Third Thursday of each month
⏰ 2-4 p.m.

What to expect:

• Volunteers will be on-site to assist
• You (or your designate) must sign for your order
• Bring your own reusable bags or boxes (none are provided)

5. Need a Ride?

If you require transportation, book the Devon Community Bus as soon as you place your order:

• The bus will take you to and from the arena
• You must be able to lift and carry your own food box

6. Can’t Pick Up Your Basket?

If you’re unable to attend:

• You may assign a trusted designate to pick up your order
• They must:
  • Provide your name
  • Show ID or provide their contact information
  • Be able to carry the box

⚠️ Important:
If your order is not picked up, it will be donated. No refunds are provided.

Important Dates (Launch Period)

• Ordering opens: April 27
• Ordering deadline: May 8
• First Devon pickup date: May 21
