2016 DESA Winners

1st Place

Devon Tim Hortons

The Devon Tim Hortons employs environmental initiatives to divert as much waste as possible from the waste stream. This includes a rotation of 25 bins for organic material diversion and a sorting station at the rear of the restaurant.

2nd Place

The Shaggy Barber

The Shaggy Barber is a full service salon that offers high quality services paired with environmental stewardship.  Initiatives include the use of a system called "Green Circle Salons" which focuses on waste diversion and removed chemicals from grey water.

Runner Ups

Bzdel Enterprises Ltd.

Bzdel Enterprises Ltd. is a residential construction company that builds spec. and custom home. Environmental initiatives employed by Bzdel Enterprised Ltd. include recycling all of their waste products and encouraging clients to think of the environment.

De Rose Transport

De Rose Transport is a lifting and transportation services company with services ranging from pickup trucks to tractors (semi-trucks) and pickers (crane trucks). They have adopted an anti-idling policy and have installed hardware in their vehicles to remind the driver to turn off the vehicle when idling.

Local business named finalist for provincial award

2016 was the inaugural year for the Devon Environmental Sustainability Award (DESA) program and what a year it was! The first place winner, Devon Tim Hortons, was nominated for an Emerald Award on behalf of the Town of Devon and was named a finalist by the Emerald Foundation. The process included the Alberta Emerald Foundation filming a video at the Devon Tim Hortons on their initiative.
