    Time Capsule Rules & Regulations

    Background Information

This new time capsule will be replacing the one that was buried for the Town of Devon’s 50th Anniversary. This time capsule will be a collective contribution of Town, businesses, clubs, groups, and citizens living within the Town of Devon. The purpose of this time capsule is to commemorate the citizens that make the Town of Devon great, as well as to allow future Devonians to gain insight into what the Town was like 25 years ago. This time capsule will be opened on the Town of Devon’s Centennial Anniversary, happening in 2050.

    Submissions

All citizens, groups, and businesses are allowed to apply to submit an item to go into the time capsule. Due to the size limitations of the capsule, we cannot guarantee that all items and applications will be approved. Submissions should be reflective of the Town of Devon, and should be significant to the Town as a whole, not just an isolated individual. All submissions must be completed in full and can be submitted at the Town of Devon Office Building or by emailing events@devon.ca. Please leave your contact information, so that we can get more information about your submission if needed. All submissions will be assessed by Town Administration.

    Size & Preservation Guidelines

To help ensure items last 25 years underground:

    • Size/Weight: Provide dimensions in your application. Keep items compact and lightweight.
    • Durability: Items must be non-perishable and able to withstand long-term storage.
    • No batteries or materials deemed hazardous by the Committee.
    • Packaging: Applicants are responsible for basic preparation (e.g., laminating paper, placing items in zip or vacuum-sealed bags).
    • Town support: Preservation/packaging materials may be provided upon request and as available.
    • Important: While every effort will be made to preserve items, the Town of Devon and the 75th Anniversary Committee cannot guarantee item condition and assume no liability for any damage.

    Items

All items included within the time capsule must be relevant to the Town of Devon and its history in some way. Items submitted should be non-perishable and able to withstand being buried for 25 years. All preservation and packaging materials for objects will be provided by the Town of Devon upon request. Items should not have any batteries included or any other accessories deemed hazardous. Rules regarding items allowed within the time capsule are subject to change at the discretion of Town Administration. Laminated paper items are preferred as well as objects like figurines, glasses, etc.

    Preservation

All of those whose items are accepted are responsible for insuring that the item is properly prepared for storage within the time capsule. For example, laminating paper documents and vacuum sealing items will ensure that they are air and water tight allowing for better preservation.

Town Administration has the right to reject any applications and items. They cannot guarantee approval of all items due to size limitations and time capsule logistics. Town Administration cannot guarantee items will be preserved and assumes no liability for damaged items.
