Top Highlights from the Meeting ✔ Discussion on the Indigenous Relations Advisory Committee (IRAC) was deferred until September 14, 2026 ✔ Council directed Administration to review a request to name a pond in honour of Karen Macaulay ✔ Council approved continuing Devon's RCMP policing partnership and authorized a request for an additional RCMP resource Devon Nature Club Presentation Representatives from the Devon Nature Club presented a tribute to longtime community volunteer Karen Macaulay and requested that a local pond be named "Karen's Pond" in her honour. Council directed Administration to review the request in accordance with the Town's Naming of Parks Policy and bring options back for Council consideration. Indigenous Relations Advisory Committee (IRAC) Discussion Deferred Council heard presentations from residents and members of the Indigenous Relations Advisory Committee regarding a Notice of Motion proposing the dissolution of the committee. Following discussion, Council voted to defer consideration of the motion until Sept. 14, 2026. Council also approved the appointment of Councillors Kayla Fitzpatrick and Brian Bowles as Council representatives on the Indigenous Relations Advisory Committee through Nov. 1, 2026. Public Hearing Scheduled for Advertising & Public Notice Bylaw Council scheduled a Public Hearing for Advertising & Public Notice Bylaw 1031/2026 for June 22, 2026, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The proposed bylaw would update how the Town provides statutory public notices and advertising requirements. Summer Council Meeting Location Changes Due to planned technology upgrades in Council Chambers, the July 13 and Aug. 10, 2026 Regular Council Meetings will be held in the Dan Claypool Room at the Devon Community Centre. Intermunicipal Development Plan Opt-Out Council approved a resolution confirming that an Intermunicipal Development Plan with the City of Edmonton is not required at this time. Administration noted the municipalities share a limited boundary area with minimal development pressures and no anticipated land-use conflicts requiring a formal plan. Spray Park Hours Extended Council directed Administration to return Spray Park operating hours to 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Joint Meeting with Parkland County Council directed Administration to prepare an agenda for the upcoming joint meeting between Devon Town Council and Parkland County Council. CAO Mid-Year Evaluation Council directed that a mid-year performance evaluation be completed for the Chief Administrative Officer. Planning & Development Services Council approved the addition of one Senior Planner position effective July 2026 to support planning and development services and community growth. RCMP Pilot Project Completed and New Agreement Approved Following a presentation from the Parkland RCMP Detachment, Council approved completion of the current RCMP pilot project and authorized the CAO to enter into an agreement with Spruce Grove and Stony Plain for Devon's portion of the Parkland Detachment facility. Council also authorized the Mayor and CAO to enter into an agreement with the RCMP for proposed service changes and approved a request for one additional RCMP resource to support policing services in Devon. Information Request – Voyageur Park Costs Council requested that costs associated with Voyageur Park operations, including park staffing and community peace officer services, continue to be tracked so that revenues and expenses can be evaluated at the end of the season.
