Compost Cart – yard waste, compostable materials, soiled cardboard

Blue Bags – clean recyclables (ex. paper, cardboard, containers)

See the Devon Recycle Handbook for more information.

Yes. Leave at least 1.5 m (5 ft) of space on all sides of your cart.

This ensures the automated collection truck can safely lift and empty it.

No—only material inside the cart will be collected during regular pickup. Extra garbage can be taken to the Recycle Depot (fees apply).

Blue Bag collection runs year-round, and there is no limit to the number you can set out. Place Blue Bags at your regular collection point at least 1.5 m (5 ft) away from your waste cart. Ensure all items are set out by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.

Common reasons include:

  • Items not set out by 7:00 a.m.
  • Insufficient clearance (1.5 m rule)
  • Contamination (ex. wrong items placed in Blue Bags or Compost Cart)
  • Overfilled or unsafe carts
  • Statutory holidays
  • Severe weather events
  • Being inaccessible for collection trucks to access the waste

If a collection was missed, please contact the Town at waste@devon.ca and we can investigate further.

Residents are responsible for their assigned waste carts.

If your cart is missing or damaged, contact waste@devon.ca. Each cart is linked to your address, and we may be able to help locate it or fix it. If a cart is irreparable, it will be replaced on location at no cost to the homeowner.

Email waste@devon.ca to request a repair or replacement. The Town will coordinate with the collection contractor to assess and resolve the issue.

Use durable, properly tied Blue Bags and avoid overfilling. Loose materials will not be collected.

Waste Carts need periodic cleaning. Clean your cart periodically using water and mild soap. Regular rinsing helps prevent odors and buildup—especially in warmer months.

The Devon Recycle Depot is open:

  • Monday, Friday, Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

See the Detailed Sorting List for accepted materials.

If your building does not provide recycling or composting:

  • Bring recyclables in Blue Bags to the Recycle Depot (no charge)
  • Bring compostable material in compostable bags or empty straight into the bin onsite

There is no limit to the number of Blue Bags or Compost materials you can drop off.

Large Item Pickup occurs twice per year (spring and fall).

Dates are advertised on the Town website, Devon Dispatch, and social media.

During this week, large household items are also accepted free of charge at the Recycle Depot.

See our Large Item Pick-Up page for more details.

Brown Bag collection occurs one week after Large Item Pickup (spring and fall).

What to know:

  • No limit on the number of bags
  • Place bags at least 1 m (4 ft) from your waste cart
  • Set out by 7:00 a.m. on collection day

Brown Bags are also accepted year-round at the Recycle Depot at no charge.
