Community Events

The Town of Devon is launching the 4×4 Youth Micro Work Experience Program in summer 2026 to help local youth explore careers, gain real workplace experience and build confidence.

The pilot program gives selected students the chance to complete 16 hours of supervised, hands-on experience with the Town of Devon in areas such as recreation, communications, parks, planning and public services.

Participants will also attend a short pre-employment session to learn about workplace expectations, safety and professional skills.

The program is designed for students who may be entering the workforce for the first time. No previous work experience is required — just curiosity, effort and a willingness to learn. This is a guided work experience opportunity, not formal employment.

Students who successfully complete the program will receive a $200 honorarium.

Program Details

  • Program dates: Summer 2026
  • Time commitment: 16 hours, plus a pre-employment session
  • Location: Town of Devon facilities and work areas
  • Eligibility: Devon residents/Devon school students, ages 14–17
  • Application deadline: June 15

How to Apply:
Students interested in applying must submit a short letter (maximum one page) for the role they are most interested in.

The letter should include:

  • Why they are interested in the role
  • Skills, interests or experiences they bring
  • What they hope to learn
  • Confirmation of availability for the proposed schedule

Applicants are reminded that this is not a formal cover letter. School activities, volunteering, sports, clubs and helping at home all count as valuable experience. Genuine interest, effort and willingness to learn are encouraged.

Shortlisted students may be invited to a brief, informal matching conversation to help ensure a good fit between the student, placement and work environment.

Students selected for a placement must attend the mandatory pre-employment session before beginning their placement.
