Local Devon Residents to be Exempt from Paid Parking Fees during Pilot

The Town of Devon is launching a Paid Parking Pilot Program at Voyageur Park beginning Friday, June 13, 2025, and running through September 30, 2025—with a key update: Devon residents with a valid local address will now be exempt from paying parking fees.

This decision was made in response to public feedback following the initial announcement of the pilot as many residents expressed their concern about being required to pay for access to in their local river valley. In recognition of these concerns, Council directed Administration to explore options that preserve the pilot’s goals while ensuring fair and equitable access for residents.

Why a Paid Parking Pilot?

Voyageur Park has experienced a significant increase in visitors over recent years, leading to congestion, safety concerns, and increased maintenance needs.

This pilot is designed to:

  • Improve traffic flow and emergency access
  • Enhance safety for park users and staff
  • Support ongoing park maintenance and future improvements

How the Updated Pilot Will Work

Paid parking will apply only to non-residents on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Parking remains free for all users Monday through Thursday.

Registering for Parking – Devon Residents
Residents will be able to register their vehicle(s) with the Town by providing their vehicle registration and drivers license with a Devon address starting June 9, 2025. Upon verification, they will receive an access code that can be entered at the scan-to-pay station during paid parking times at Voyageur Park.

Registration is available at the Town Office during business hours (Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).

Parking Rates for Non-Residents

  • Voyageur Park: $2 per hour, to a maximum of $6 per day
  • Boat Launch Parking Lot: $2.50 per hour, to a maximum of $10 per day

Payment will be contactless, with visitors using a scan-to-pay system via their mobile device. Seasonal passes will not be offered during the pilot period.

Where the Funds Will Go

All revenue from the paid parking program will be reinvested directly into Voyageur Park, funding:

  • Enhanced maintenance and sanitation
  • Increased seasonal bylaw patrols
  • Future infrastructure and amenity improvements

Looking Ahead

The Town will monitor the pilot closely throughout the summer, collecting data and community feedback to evaluate the program’s success and guide future decisions. This project reflects Devon’s commitment to balancing access, safety, and sustainability in high-use public spaces.
