Halloween Safety Tips from Devon RCMP

With Halloween just around the corner, Devon RCMP encourages everyone to prioritize safety for a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience. Here are some key tips to keep your little goblins safe:

  • Inspect Candy: Before they dig in, check all candy for any signs of tampering or unwrapped items.
  • Bright and Safe Costumes: Choose bright costumes that are visible in low light, and avoid long, trailing fabric that could cause tripping.
  • Face Paint Over Masks: Opt for face paint instead of masks, as it allows for better visibility and reduces the risk of obstructed vision.
  • Stick to Well-Lit Homes: Only visit homes with welcoming lights or decorations, and skip those that are dark.
  • Street Safety: Remind kids to look both ways before crossing the street and to use sidewalks when available. If sidewalks are absent, walk facing traffic.
  • Supervision and Groups: Always supervise young children while trick-or-treating, and consider trick-or-treating in groups for extra safety.
