Public Skating to start evening of Oct. 1 and Adult Shinny to start on Oct. 6

The Town of Devon is happy to bring public skate programming back to the Dale Fisher Arena starting in October. Public skating will begin for the season the evening of Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Adult Shinny will start on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 12-1 p.m.

Select school PD Days will also be available for public skating and will be posted ahead of time on the Dale Fisher Arena calendar at devon.recdesk.com and shared through the Town’s Dispatch pages and social media. Due to the extra time constraints with increased sanitization at the arena, there will be no Public Skating on Wednesdays.

At this time, face coverings are strongly encouraged for all ice users. The Town will continue to monitor the COVID-19 numbers in the region and may implement a stricter policy for the arena if required.

“There were some challenges to find ice time for everyone with the increased amount of time it takes to sanitize the arena between ice users,” said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “We are glad that starting in October, we were able to find a way to bring back some of our Dale Fisher Arena public programs for residents, while still following all of the COVID-19 safety guidelines outlined by AHS.”

Public Skating – Starts Oct. 1

Public Skating is open to everyone and will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. and on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Adult Shinny – Starts Oct. 6

Adult Shinny is reserved for those 18+ and will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-1 p.m.

Arena Protocols

New COVID-19 protocols and guidelines have been put in place to ensure the safety of both Town staff and all arena users. Registration will be required for all those planning to attend public programming and will be capped at a maximum of 15 people.

Registration

Registration will be done through the Town’s recreation website at devon.recdesk.com and registration for each Public Skating or Adult Shinny session will open two weeks before the date of the program.

Additional information including a full copy of the new arena protocols is available at devon.ca/skate.
