1 Community Events With election season underway in Devon, campaign signs are becoming a common sight along roadways and on private property. Unfortunately, the Devon RCMP have received several reports of signs being removed, damaged, or vandalized. The RCMP are reminding the public that tampering with election signs is a serious offence. Individuals caught stealing or damaging signs may face charges under the Canada Elections Act, in addition to potential prosecution under the Criminal Code for mischief, theft, or trespassing. These offences can result in a criminal record. “Election signs are an important part of the democratic process, giving candidates an opportunity to share their message with the community,” said the Devon RCMP. “Damaging or removing signs not only undermines that process but can also carry significant legal consequences.” Community members are asked to respect all election signage, regardless of candidate or party affiliation, and to help ensure a fair and safe election season. Anyone with information about the vandalism or theft of election signs is encouraged to contact the Devon RCMP at 780-987-3413.
