1854 Community Events Municipal tax rate increase of 5.67 per cent approved for 2023 Devon’s 2023 Tax Rate Bylaw was approved by Council at their Tuesday, May 24 Council Meeting with a 5.67 per cent municipal tax rate increase for 2023. For a household with an average assessed value of $336,600, the impact of a 5.67 per cent tax rate increase is an estimated increase in municipal taxes, as well as taxes levied for requisitions, of $201.84 per year or $16.82 per month. Property assessments are based on the estimated market value of a property as of July 1 of the previous year as regulated by the provincial government. Budget Challenges The 2023 Operating Budget posed a significant challenge for Council to maintain service levels as costs to deliver many municipal services exceeded the general rate of inflation. These inflationary pressures, combined with the increased cost of the new RCMP contract of $414,545 and retroactive RCMP pay of $247,338, played a huge role in the development of Council’s Three-Year Fiscal Recovery and Service Stabilization Plan that entered its first year in the 2023 budget. "We have had to navigate many challenges in this budget, and I would like to commend Council and Administration for your work developing a plan to continue to deliver the services residents are accustomed to receiving from the Town,” said Mayor Craddock. “Council remains committed to doing our part to provide a platform for growth here in Devon through the development of our Growing and Prospering Together Master Plan and exploring all avenues to invite new and sustainable investment into our community.” Tax Notices Tax notices will be mailed out to residential and non-residential property owners by May 31, 2023.
