New time capsule to be opened during 100th Anniversary in 2050

The Town of Devon is inviting residents to help make history as part of its 100-year anniversary celebrations.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 5 p.m., the Town will officially bury a new centennial time capsule in Town Office Park. The capsule, filled with community submissions, will be sealed until 2050, when it will be opened during Devon’s 100th Anniversary.

This historic initiative provides residents, businesses, and community groups the opportunity to leave a legacy that represents Devon today. From stories and photographs to keepsakes and mementos, the items chosen will showcase our community spirit and identity for future generations to discover.

To make the celebration even more special, attendees of the burial ceremony are invited to enjoy free pizza as part of the festivities.

“A time capsule is more than just a box of items, it’s a snapshot of who we are as a community,” said Mayor Jeff Craddock. “When our future residents open it in 2050, they’ll see not only the growth and change of Devon, but also the pride, traditions, and values that continue to define us today.”

Submission Details

  • Applications due: September 28, 2025
  • Approved item drop-off deadline: October 8, 2025
  • Space is limited; not all submissions will be accepted.
  • Items must be non-perishable, reflect Devon’s community, and be suitable for 25 years of preservation.

Application forms and full rules are available online at devon.ca/75-TC, at the Town Office, or by request at events@devon.ca.

The burial of this time capsule is a key milestone in Devon’s 100-year anniversary and a symbolic reminder of our shared past, present, and future. All residents are encouraged to take part in the ceremony, enjoy the celebration, and take pride in leaving their mark on Devon’s story.
