Blue Bag Recycling

Blue bags of household recyclables are collected weekly in Devon on residents' regular collection day (Tuesday or Wednesday). There is NO LIMIT on the number of blue recycle bags that will be picked up from curbside.

Households that do not receive curbside pickup can also take their blue bag recycling to the Devon Recycling Depot to be disposed of for no charge.

The golden rule of blue bag recycling: ALL recyclables must be CLEAN and DRY and contained in a blue recycle bag. 

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)

Example items that can be recycled

• Plastic containers, tubs and bottles (e.g. detergent, condiment or shampoo bottles, margarine and large yogurt containers, ice cream pails);  Lids and caps can stay on
• Tin food cans (clean)
• Magazines, newspaper, flyers and catalogues
• Paper – any colour of office paper, notepads, envelopes, craft paper, newspaper, etc.
• Paper laminate packaging
• Cartons – lids and caps can stay on
• Books with front and back covers removed
• Wrapping paper, pie plates & aluminum foil, greeting cards (decorations removed)
• Boxboard – flattened and empty (e.g. cereal, cracker, cookies, tissue boxes)
• Cardboard – flattened, empty, and no larger than 60x60 cm

Example items that can't be recycled

• Soft/flexible plastic such as plastic clamshell containers (e.g. berries, salads, bakery items)
• Single use plastic cups (e.g. pudding, applesauce, small yogurt)
• Plasticbags, film and wrap (e.g. grocery bag, food wrap, resealable bags)
• Styrofoam (e.g. packaging material, meat tray, take-out containers)
• To-go cups (e.g. drink cups and straws)
• Aluminum foil, pie plates, and frozen food trays (ball up ALL foil)
• Aerosol containers (food sprays, hairspray, shaving cream, deodorant, air fresheners)
• Glass containers (lids and caps off)
• Small metal items (e.g. coat hanger, nails, broke household items)
• Plastic packaging from toys, food and household items (e.g. fruit and vegetable bags, cereal box liners, pet food bags, plant pots)
