Wednesday, May 13, 2026 12 Community Events Devon RCMP are reminding motorists to make safe choices on the road as the May long weekend approaches. Throughout the long weekend, officers will be conducting increased traffic enforcement targeting behaviours most commonly linked to serious and fatal collisions, including impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and failing to wear a seatbelt. Traffic volumes typically increase over the Victoria Day long weekend as people travel, visit seasonal properties and attend events. Devon RCMP will be patrolling in marked and unmarked vehicles, with a focus on check stops and targeted enforcement in high-risk locations. This enforcement period also aligns with Canada Road Safety Week, a national initiative focused on reducing collisions and saving lives by encouraging safe driving behaviours. Drivers are reminded to: Plan a safe ride home if alcohol, cannabis or other impairing substances are part of the weekend. Obey posted speed limits and adjust for road and weather conditions. Stay focused behind the wheel by putting phones and other distractions away. Ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained, including children in the correct car or booster seat. Anyone who observes dangerous driving is encouraged to contact police when it is safe to do so. For more road safety tips, follow RCMP Alberta on X at @RCMPAlberta or on Facebook at RCMP in Alberta.
