Funding supports hot water heater upgrade on Dale Fisher Arena side

The Town of Devon has completed another high-efficiency hot water heater upgrade at the GFL Twin Arena, supported through funding from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC).

This latest upgrade was completed on the east Dale Fisher Arena side of the facility, replacing aging equipment with a modern, energy-efficient system. The new hot water heater is designed to better meet operational demands while improving performance, reliability, and overall energy efficiency.

Project details include:

  • Total project cost: $40,935.65
  • Rebate received: $19,304.66
  • Estimated annual energy cost savings: approximately $185.29/year
  • Natural gas saved: 101.25 GJ per year
  • GHG reduction: 75.94 tonnes of CO₂ over the life of the system

Funding for the project was provided through MCCAC’s Municipal Energy Manager Program, with support from the Government of Alberta. MCCAC is a partnership between Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta.

“This project builds on previous upgrades at the arena and reflects our ongoing commitment to improving energy performance across municipal facilities,” said Mayor Jeff Craddock. “Accessing funding to help with the cost of these upgrades, no matter how big or small, is so important to us and I’d like to extend my thank you to MCCAC and to our staff for working together to bring this to Devon”.

The GFL Twin Arena hosts thousands of user hours annually, supporting minor hockey, figure skating, tournaments, and community events. Continued investment in energy efficiency helps ensure the facility remains sustainable, reliable, and cost-effective for the community.
