25 Community Events Energy-efficient retrofits at Community Centre and Fire Hall will save $3,300 annually The Town of Devon has completed energy-saving upgrades at the Devon Community Centre and the Devon Fire Hall, thanks to funding from the Government of Alberta through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC). These improvements will save the Town approximately $3,300 in energy costs every year while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Fire Hall Upgrades The Fire Hall received 91 new LED lights, replacing outdated bulbs in areas including the truck bays, offices, hallways, and training spaces. The brighter, more efficient lighting will lower energy use and utility costs. Total project cost: $10,805.86 Rebate received: $5,402.93 Estimated annual savings: $1,900 Electricity saved: 10,555 kWh per year GHG reduction: 77 tonnes of CO2 over the life of the system Community Centre Upgrades A total of 162 LED lights were installed at the Community Centre, replacing old bulbs in spaces such as the main hall, kitchen, bathrooms, and storage areas. The upgrades improve lighting while reducing energy consumption. Total project cost: $10,263.07 Rebate received: $5,131.54 Estimated annual savings: $1,400 Electricity saved: 10,265 kWh per year GHG reduction: 40 tonnes of CO2 over the life of the system “These upgrades are a great example of how we can reduce costs and emissions while improving our community spaces,” said Mayor Craddock. “We’re grateful for the support from MCCAC in making these projects possible.” “This project shows that meaningful climate action doesn’t have to be complicated or costly,” said Trina Innes, Executive Director of the MCCAC. “With just a small investment, communities can build a better future.” The Town has also hired Simplify Energy Consulting Ltd. and dcarb inc. to complete an energy assessment of the Town Hall. With continued support from MCCAC’s Community Energy Conservation Program, this assessment will help identify future opportunities to improve energy efficiency in municipal buildings. The MCCAC is a partnership between Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Funding for the Community Energy Conservation Program was provided by the Government of Alberta. Share Print
