Monday, February 2, 2026 1 Community Events Funding to help replace aging hot water heater with modern, energy-efficient model The Town of Devon has completed a high-efficiency hot water heater upgrade at the GFL Twin Arena, supported through funding from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC). The new system replaces aging equipment with a modern, energy-efficient hot water heater designed to better meet the demands of a busy twin-pad arena while improving overall performance and reliability. The upgrade is expected to reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs, and decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the life of the system. Project details include: Total project cost: $40,110.78 Rebate received: $11,982.94 Estimated annual energy savings: approximately $858 Natural gas saved: 101 GJ per year GHG reduction: 5.31 tonnes of CO₂ over the life of the system Funding for the project was provided through MCCAC’s Community Energy Conservation Program, with support from the Government of Alberta. MCCAC is a partnership between Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. “This upgrade is a practical investment that helps reduce long-term operating costs while improving the efficiency our most heavily used recreation facility,” said Mayor Jeff Craddock. “Thank you to MCCAC for your support funding the replacement of our hot water heater at the arena. Projects like this allow us to be good stewards of both public dollars and the environment.” The GFL Twin Arena hosts thousands of user hours annually, supporting minor hockey, figure skating, tournaments, and community events. Improving energy performance at the facility helps ensure it remains sustainable and cost-effective for years to come. Share Print
