Devon Recycle Depot Update: Coloured Glass No Longer Accepted

1
Community Events

The Town of Devon would like to inform residents that the Devon Recycle Depot is no longer accepting coloured glass, including items such as olive oil bottles and other tinted containers.

This change is necessary due to a high probability of contamination. Many of the coloured glass bottles brought to the Depot—particularly olive oil bottles—cannot be cleaned thoroughly because their pour spouts are difficult or impossible to remove, leaving residue inside. This contamination results in entire batches of glass needing to be thrown out, which impacts processing and overall recycling efficiency.

Based on direction from the City of Leduc, our regional processing partner, the Depot will now only accept:

✔️ Accepted at the Recycle Depot

  • Clear glass only
  • Glass that is fully clean, rinsed, and free of residue

No Longer Accepted

  • Coloured glass (any tinted glass, including green, brown, blue, etc.)
  • Olive oil bottles or similar containers with fixed pour spouts

We appreciate the community’s understanding as we adjust to updated recycling requirements. The good news is that glass collection at curbside is coming soon and will be phased in as part of Alberta’s new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program. Once the EPR system is fully implemented, residents will have more convenient and standardized options for recycling glass and other materials.
